People often wonder about the details of Neurofeedback (i.e., What will I notice during the session, after the session, and how long do the results last). Here are some commonly asked questions and responses:
How will I feel during and after the Neurofeedback training session?

People typically notice a shift in physical and emotional well-being during the Neurofeedback (NFB) training session (called training because we are training the brain to enhance it’s functionality). People report feeling calm, relaxed, maybe tired during the session. Afterward, people generally report more energy and an overall sense of wellbeing within 30 minutes of the session. The effects last from 24-48 hours, and people report improvements in sleep and other symptoms (stress, anxiety, depression, etc.).

The effects last longer over time as we re-train the brain to function optimally, and that is why we recommend starting with 40 NFB training sessions, re-assessing symptoms remaining, and then add additional 20 session sets until symptoms relief is achieved and maintained. The number of training sessions each individual needs varies based on symptom duration, severity of symptoms, nutrition, etc.

How long is a training session?

Training Sessions are 45-50 minutes long and include 5-10 minutes for setup, 30 minutes of training time, and 5-10 minutes for clean up and review of progress and therapeutic interventions.

How many sessions are required?

Each client’s needs are assessed during the intake process and an individualized treatment plan is created. The standard number of NFB Training Sessions is 40. However, severe cases may take up to 60 sessions, while mild cases may require only 30 sessions.

Does Neurofeedback work?

Neurofeedback is very successful in alleviating symptoms for most people. Success rates are between 75-80%, and the positive results are lasting. Some people come in for “tune ups,” others find they don’t need maintenance sessions. The success of Neurofeedback is largely determined by the clear feedback we receive about the training effects from the client or family members, which also guides and directs our approach for maximum benefit.

Does insurance cover Neurofeedback training sessions?

Most insurance companies do not cover Neurofeedback (NFB) at this time. You are welcome to check with your Health Savings Account (HSA) to determine if you can use those benefits to cover NFB sessions. A cash payment is due prior to each Neurofeedback training session, and we are happy to provide you with a Super Bill to submit to your insurance company. You may need to advocate for reimbursement.
